I don’t know about you, but I need a reset. A home reset. Really, probably a life reset too. This realization is caused by a combination of chaos at work and chaos at home (thanks to a kitchen update we just started and time away from home due to a vacation).
I thrive on schedules and routines, and I feel lost without them. When I’m off my normal routine, I deal with latest and loudest until I’m burnt out. I realize that at a certain point I have to stop and rest; there will always be something left to do, and I’ll never be done. Routines help because I know when I’ll get to something. They are a reassurance that things won’t fall through the cracks.
With each new season in life we have to re-determine what is “normal,” what is the “bare minimum” that will keep us from going absolutely crazy, and what is “ideal.” Sometimes this is a temporary adjustment (I will have a new employee soon so I’ll be back to doing my normal job tasks, and my kitchen will be put back together eventually). Sometimes, though, changes are permanent (new pet? newly married? new baby? empty nest?) and require a complete re-examination of your routines.
The routines I have set up for myself, for the house, for work – all need to be rethought. Along with that, my house needs a deep cleaning and a serious decluttering and surface clearing. (Thank goodness I have a small house!)
Please join me during the month of October. Each day I’ll be posting what I’m working on, challenges so you can join in, and update my progress (and hopefully hear about yours!).
A bit about this series: this is the third year that I have participated in 31 Days, a writing challenge to pick a topic and write a post on that topic every day in October. (The first year was on another of my blogs.)
